Hi Chamption, It was suck a pleasure to meet and hear you in person at the recent holiday party in Harlem. I was mesmerized by your music that evening. I could not talk to people like I was supposed to. you know how at events like that we are supposed to schmooze and network w/ all the VIPs in the room. But, all I wanted was to do was sit and groove with you. You are such a special talent and gem. Keep on singing and playing that piano girl. You go! I hope to connect with you again soon. Your fan, Sylvia

If you ever need a fill in drummer, or full time, please don't hesitate to call or write. I have professional acoustic and a Yamaha electric set that I used for recording artist Linda Bonadies. I have a youtube of us also playing the Mattatuck in Waterbury, Ct.

I'm fun to work with, I live in Connecticut. I have written 3 books, filmed a movie, run, ski, fly, motorycling. I have done alot of charity work, like running up the famous Empire State Building stair race for charity every year. Twice for this man: www.bobveillette.com Linda wrote a song about him in 2 weeks, and it's now on her album. Bob is a good friend of mine. Good luck Champian. Again, available for emergency, whatever; sounds great. Tim Andrew

Hi Champion - I just read - and throughly enjoyed - your article in downbeat about block chords. I was waiting for you to mention the early jazz organists and how Milt Buckner, Bill Doggett and Wild Bill David (the leader of the pack) all used block chords in their early organ combos. The idea was to emulate the big band sound and utilize the orchestral capabilities of that Hammond organ. Block chords were prevalent in the pre-Jimmy Smith jazz organ groups. You could go on and on with your premise! Thanks so much and best to you...

What a wonderful singer! I heard you this evening at Novita in Metuchen, NJ---I was stunned! I didn't think that singers like you still existed. I thought of Chris Connor, Lee Wiley, and some of the other great singers of the 40's and 50's---you are in their league, the very best! I have to travel to Europe in the next few days, but I will not miss you at Novita on Thursday nights when I return after June 13th. Thank you for a wonderful performance. I was particularly happy to hear "If I had you"---have you heard Judy Garland's version of that ever? Thanks again.

Dear Champian,

I sent the following email to your dad, but didnt\\\' have your current email address, so I thought I would send it here.

Dear Steve and Champian,

I am so pleased that you are in the line-up for the Detroit Jazz Festival. I hope my efforts last summer were of some assistance. Detroit is a really great jazz city and there are a number of good jazz clubs including Cliff Bell\\\'s and the legendary Baker\\\'s Keyboard Lounge, one of the oldest jazz clubs in the U.S. Ann Arbor also has a number of jazz venues. It would be nice to see you get a few gigs in town as well!

I am looking forward to this year\\\'s Detroit Jazz Festival and I hope to see you there in person!

Best Regards,

Gregg Pakela

Keep up the great work!

Sunday, April 11th, 2010 | Jean-Marc Sauve
Hi,

I was at Birdland last Sunday for your Easter show.

We breifly met and I congradulated you for this very very very beautiflull performance. I'd like to insist on the quality of your perfomance as much as a signer as a pianist. I am realy impress... Your musicians are also impressive. The sound was perfectly balances between the voice, the piano, the bass and the drum.

This trio formula (piano, bass, dums) suits you perfectly. Don't put in a sax or anything else : it is perfect as it is.

Hope to have the chance to ear you again live, maybe here in Québec City or Montréal.

Jean-Marc

I attended the award ceremony/program this evening at the Long Hill Senior Center. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing your talent with those of us that attended! My son, a sophomore at Watchung Hills High School, and a trumpet player in the high school jazz band was also fortunate to hear your performance tonight. He enjoyed the program as much as I did and it was all we talked about on the way home in the car! Anyway...congratulations on your award. We look forward to listening to your CD. Best of luck to you and all of the members of the quintet!

Wow - what a priviledge to have heard you grow from an aspiring teenager into a beautiful, confident, and prodigious jazz pianist and singer. You are truly a credit to the music, and although you've already accomplished so much, I have no doubt that even greater things are in store for you in the future. Just one complaint though -- you need to come back to OKC more often, OK? - Mike

Champian is a breath of fresh air. I know that most singer/pianists that are in trios usually depart for greener pastures and increase the singing while decreasing piano. But I hope she keeps up with her piano as long as possible. I loved the CD from Japan that she sold me in Metuchen, NJ and I can't stop playing it!

Singing at The Vanguard with Lou Donaldson... that's pretty big stuff!!

WOW! I'm impressed -- and singers usually don't wow me as most don't sing in tune nor do they swing. Keep it up!

Music always,

Champian Fulton is indeed one of the premiere Jazz Piano-Vocalists on the scene today! Barely 25, her pipes boast the richness and sonority of many of the great female Jazz singers. Not to mention her intense Piano chops ;-) Looking forward to your Madison, New Jersey gig at the Shanghai Jazz Club! Nearly 90 minutes away, it is sure to be a highlight of the year so far.

Hi - - we saw you at the Garage Jan 31, 2009, you were absolutely terrific in person, although you did have to compete with the 2 noisy party tables up in the front! Your piano playing is very impressive, and you sing with such a great jazz sensibility! I also enjoyed it when you had the piano player sit in, which freed you to concentrate on the singing, but you are probably at your best when you are doing both. We got the CD, great choice of songs, sounds great, hope it does well!

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 | Stephanie
I'm really looking forward to hearing you at Novita in Metuchen soon :-)

Champian! I'm not sure if you'll remember me, but I first saw you on the day you were born ....because I was a longtime buddy of your mom, Susan. I saw you grow - and had the honor of seeing you perform in your early years of hitting the stage. I knew you would make it big - and here you are! I am so proud of you and amazed at what you have accomplished. Congratulations - to you and to your very supportive parents, Susan and Stephen!

Saw you on Friday at the Count Basie Theater, thought you were one of the best, kinda fell in love with you and your music. Would like some info on getting one of your CD. Keep up the great work.

Saturday, December 13th, 2008 | Candy Friedman
I'm writing this because I loved your performance last night at the Count Basis, and I' d like to see you get ahead. I never heard your name before; now I'm looking forward to hearing it a lot in the future! You were wonderful!

I thought you were better when you sang and played in the first act. In my opinion your second act number needed you to use your hands more and move around the stage more. I went to bed singing, "...just like the sting of a bee, you turned the tables on me!" Then I woke up in the morning with that song in my head.

You have a very distinctive voice-one that can be recognized without one being told who's singing.
Your voice, phrasing and piano playing are all terrific! I really think you could give Diana Krall some competition.

If I were you, I'd send a CD to Jonathan Schwartz. In case you've never heard of him, Google him. Besides being a Sinatra expert (and he knew him well), he's a music historian. He's the son of the composer Arthur Schwartz, so he knows or knew many of the music greats. He plays mostly the Great American Songbook on his radio shows on WNYC 93.9 FM on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4 and streaming live on WNYC.

Sincerely,
Candy Friedman, 64, and jazz fan since I was 13

Jonathan Schwatrz played your recording of He Ain't Got Rhythm this evening on Seriously Sinatra channel on XM 73 and Serius 75! He made apoint of introducing you and spelled your name for his listeners, then after the song ended he "back sold" it by telling his listeners that you were Champian Fulton, you had an album out, and that song was on it. Congratulations on going out nationwide on not one but two satellite systems!
Happy holidays & all the best in the New Year!

Champian,

Although I'm somewhat new to the world of jazz, I thouroughly like listening to your musical performances. When younger, I never bothered to listen to this musical genre, but now I seem to turn it on all the time--especially when reading. Although my nephew Chris' mother, Bernadette, told me about you, I'm sure I would eventually have learned about your work from friends. I find your work energetic, honest, enjoyable, and sophisticated. Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent with so many of us. Tom Smith

Caught you on a podcast: Klub 54 Room or something like that.I especially like your rendition of 'You Turned the Tables on me' I hear a hint of Helen Ward with Benny Goodman or even Eadie Gormé. Hey anyway you must be a 'New Yorker' anyway, so you know all this stuff. OK, I'm a Frank Sinatra fan, but it's great to hear young people: like you and your friends playing so much cool stuff. I first heard Champian on XM Radio driving home from work one evening. I was struck by her voice, phrasing and interpretation of the music. Her sound was so reminiscent of the greats of the 40s and 50s and I was surprised when I discovered how young she is. I bought her CD immediately and look forward to hearing a lot more from her in the future. She truly is someone whose talents will keep this genre alive. If Champian ever decides to tour in South Florida, I have 10 friends who'll gladly stand on line with me for tickets.

Thank you!

First time to your site and first time to hear you......very impressive. A drummer, I have worked with Annie Ellicot in the Tulsa market. Was disapointed to learn that you were not at Makers in OKC this week but.......it is phenominal that you've moved on to NYC. I hope one day to hear you live. Very nice work! Please keep jazz alive in the US and, if you are inclined to do so, contact me about coming back to OK to work at the OK Jazz Hall of Fame in Tulsa.

Dear Champian,
We've had your CD "Champian," with David Berger, in our new releases since September. It did okay, receiving light to moderate air play until mid-December, when it really took off. I'm happy to report that it charted Number 7 on the Top 10 Jazz report I just filed with College Music Journal. Congratulations! Your CD charted one position ahead of Queen Latifah and also outperformed Jane Monheit! I'm pleased that our DJs are showing such good taste. I've been a fan of David Berger for several years now and your collaboration with him is just terrific. Please keep us on your distribution list for future releases.
Thanks for letting us share your music with our listeners.

Dear Champian,

Thank you for one of the best evenings I have had in the last 10-15 years on 2 August at Garage. Some of the most emotionally touching jazz that I have heard in a VERY LONG time. I am the person who spoke with you between sets who lives in the UK but grew up in SouthWest Missouri. I hope your time away in Norman is pleasant and I hope to catch you again on a future return to New York. In the meantime, can you please place me onto your mailing list?

Very best regards,
Mike Garrison

Champian,

Loved you at the Garage last Saturday (07/28/2007). I'm not a fan of Jazz, but my cousin wanted to go, so I took him into the big city. Now he is hooked and so am I. Thanks for taking the time to come talk to us after your set, and hope you enjoyed the show at the Iridium. I'll check your site to see when/where you are playing next, and see if we can make it. I've never been seduced by a girl playing a piano before, but as a wise man once said, for all things, there is a first time. . .

Hey Champian,
I was turned on to your web site by my brother and must say you are awesome.

I went to school, Aldine Sr. High, with your dad and mom and was about one year behind them. Even then your dad was awesome on the trumpet and marveled everyone that heard him.

Hope Susie and Stephen are doing well and I know they are beaming with pride for you.

Tell Susie hello for me and you keep up the good work, you are going far.

Oi! So you graduated!? Crazy. I still have one more year. And I started before you. Still with the overachievement I see.
How's life? Seems you're doing well in that one place out there on the east coast...I forget the name.

Will you be in Norman at all this summer? I'd love to get together. Talk old times and new ones. I can see how 'Yorkified you've become. Ha.

Give me a shout. You have my email. I'll be in OK all but a few weeks this summer. Or maybe I'll visit you out east. What do you think of that?

Best.

~J

You were the best in Pensacola last week. It is too bad the academic pricks chosen as judges were not informed by a Jazz sensibility. I refer to them as C.A.Ps---Classical Academic Pussies. They are everywhere, just likethe ones you have discovered at Purchase. Hooray for Champian!!!

Monday, April 3rd, 2006 | concert goer
Your concert in Florida last week was beautiful.. You were so swingin' and your ballad "Dark Blur" was really moving. You brought real Jazz to the audience and they obviously loved you. The tunes were good, you were swinging and your stage presence was astonishing!! Bravo!!!

I am confident that you will do very well, and will probably win first place!
