Review from Eastwind Imports (October 2008)
Champian Fulton is a talented, 22-years-old singer/pianist from Oklahoma who now resides in New York City. She learned music from his father who is a renowned jazz trumpeter and educator. Champian graduated from the State University of New York with a music degree in 2006.
In this fabulous debut CD, she shows the full extent of her talent: sunny, lovely, expressive and soulful singing voice and formidable, bebop-based piano chops. She is ably supported by fellow New York residents, Neal Miner on bass and Fukushi Tainaka on drums.
Her sensibilities may be old fashioned and selections of tunes straight forward, but she is playing and singing the tunes she loves. Her aim is dead center in the mainstream of jazz. The fact that such a young person is doing this is actually refreshing, and when you listen to this lovely album, you'll agree that she has something special.
You'll hear a lot from her in the future. Just remember you heard about her first at Eastind Import! Recommended!
